Aged 18-30 in principle, with exceptions depending on academic background.

Physically and mentally healthy, have a clean criminal record and agree to abide by China's laws and regulations.

Hold a high school diploma or above.

For the 5-year Clinical Medicine (English-medium), applicants must have successfully completed basic science courses at university level and may graduate earlier subject to further review and approval by our Undergraduate Education Office.

For non-native English-speaking applicants for the English-medium program: TOEFL (a minimum overall score of 80), or IELTS Academic (a minimum overall score of 6.0), or a medium-of-instruction certificate from the previous school/university, or equivalent. Exemptions can be granted to applicants who have graduated in English-speaking countries.

Do not bring family members to live with you in Shantou while you are studying at SUMC.

Application Materials

If you want to book our translation service, please pay and book it at least 2 weeks before the application deadline for submission of all documents;

*1. Digital Passport-size Photo
White background, in JPG, 320 x 240 pixels minimum, 4:3 aspect ratio, 100-500KB.
*2. Valid Passport
The passport should be valid until at least March 1, 2025. Applicants who are within China, a valid residence visa in China should be attached.
*3. Physical Examination Record with laboratory test results
The physical examination record should be attached with reports of blood tests and other laboratory tests. It should be completed in Chinese or English, and bear the physician's signature and hospital stamp, valid for 6 months counting from the date of issue. *4. Criminal Record Check or Background Check
-Please note that this document is valid for only 3 months. For instance, if you submit your -application in April, your non-criminal record must have been issued no earlier than January.
-Obtain a police clearance certificate from the local police station where you currently reside, confirming no criminal record in the past 6 months at the time of application.
-You need to translated it into CHINESE if it is not in Chinese; Then you need to get it notarized by local notary office and then get it certified by local Chinese embassy; If your country has joined the HAGUE convention then just do the Chinese translation and Apostille; Then you may need to mail original copy of non-criminal record and translation & certified(or Apostille) documents to the university in China.
-If you are currently in China, the certificate must be issued by the local Chinese police.
*5. Recommendation Letter
It should include the recommender's affiliation & position, signature, email & Tel.
*6. Certificate of Senior High School
Certificate in languages other than Chinese or English should be translated into Chinese or English and be certified by notarization. Both original and official English translated version are required.

Deposit Certificate / Account Statement for the last 3 months issued by the bank on letter head, with a closing balance that can at least cover your tuition, accommodation and living expenses, travel expenses, etc. during your first year’s studies in China. If the account holder is not yourself, the completed Guarantee of Financial Support and sponsor's passport/proof of identity should be attached. You can download a template or sample from here.
*10. Personal Statement
150 words, including brief self-introduction, motivations and future plans after graduation, etc. Applicant are expected to deliver it in the language of the program you are applying for (English or Chinese).

Including all education experiences, work experiences, volunteer experiences, etc.

14. Chinese immigrants should submit the documents as follows
For Chinese immigrants, must also meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Education of China in Document No.(2020)12 (in Chinese).
(1) Former Chinese citizens who have subsequently become foreign nationals must submit:
a) Official Certificate of cancellation of Chinese nationality and census register
b) Official Certificate of naturalization as a foreign national
c) Scanned copy of passport pages (with all entry and exit records for the past 4 years, before April 30th in the year of application)
d) Proof of foreign residence, study, or work experience for the past 4 years, before April 30th in the year of application)
e) Letter of Commitment
(2) Applicants who became a foreign national at birth in a foreign country with one or both parents being a Chinese citizen must submit
a) Official Certificate of the applicant's acquisition of foreign nationality at birth
b) Scanned copy of passport pages (with all entry and exit signature records for the past 4 years, before April 30th in the year of application)
c) Proof of foreign residence, study, or work experience for the past 4 years, before April 30th in the year of application)
d) Letter of Commitment

*15. CSCA Test Transcript(s)
-You need to take the official CSCA test organized by the Chinese government and submit the corresponding subject result transcript(s) when applying. Learn more about the CSCA test >>
-The test covers Chinese (Humanities and STEM Chinese), Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Mathematics is required for all programs, while other subjects depend on the university’s specific requirements.

Tips: For applicants who are in China: If you are an employee, you still need to provide employment separation certificate and your current residence permit.
