My journey toward studying medicine began when I was just four years old in a refugee camp in Djibouti. Though I was too young to fully understand the gravity of our circumstances, I remember the overwhelg sense of hardship surrounding us. The camp was filled with people who had fled their homes in search of safety, many suffering malnutrition, infections, and untreated injuries. Amidst the struggles and uncertainty, I witnessed something that would change the course of my life forever, the arrival of doctors.

They were not just healers they were symbols of hope. I watched as they moved through the camp, tending to the sick, providing medicine, and offering reassurance to families who had lost everything. Their presence brought light into a place filled with despair. Even at such a young age, I could sense the gratitude in the eyes of those they helped. That was the moment I knew I wanted to become a doctor.

As I grew older and learned more about the world, my childhood experience in Djibouti stayed with me. I realized that healthcare is not just about treating diseases, it is about restoring dignity, alleviating suffering, and giving people a chance at a better future. This realization fueled my passion for medicine, motivating me to work hard in school and seek every opportunity to learn more about the field.

My academic journey has been driven by this deep-rooted ambition. I have dedicated myself to excelling in science courses, participating in volunteer work, and gaining hands-on experience in healthcare settings. I have sought out mentors in the medical profession and immersed myself in experiences that reinforce my belief in the power of medicine to transform lives.

Beyond academics, my personal experiences have further shaped my desire to become a doctor. Cog a background access to healthcare was not always guaranteed, I understand the devastating impact of medical disparities. I have seen first hand how lack of medical resources can mean the difference between life and death. This has instilled in me a profound sense of responsibility to serve underprivileged communities and work toward bridging healthcare gaps.

Medicine, to me, is more than a career, it is a calling. It is the ability to combine science and compassion, knowledge and empathy, in a way that directly changes lives. The doctors I saw in Djibouti didn’t just heal bodies they provided hope it was needed most. I want to do the same.

The path to becog a doctor is long and demanding, but I am ready for the challenge. My early experiences have given me resilience, my education has given me the tools, and my passion has given me the drive. Every step I take brings me closer to fulfilling the dream that started when I was four years old. One day, I hope to be the doctor who walks into a refugee camp, a rural village, or an underserved community, ready to make a difference, just as those doctors once did for me and I know Shantou University is the place I make my dream come true.
